PCM are materials with high latent heat; they are able to store energy while melting. Heat is then released during the solidification process. Such materials are considered by industrial partners for several applications, including passive thermal regulation of buildings.

During the injection process in a car engine, the dynamics of the flow is dominated by large recirculation areas, organized in vortex rings (VR). The estimation of the characteric parameters of these VR required accurate simulations, hardly achieved with industrial codes.

Prior to the study of PCM, we ensure the validity of our solution methods on standard cases for natural convection only.

BEC is a state of matter for temperature close to absolute zero. It may be modeled by the use of only one wavefunction, which satisfies the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. When submitted to fast rotations, defects may appear in the wavefunction: vortices are then created. We develop numerical method to investigate the formation of BEC submitted to rotations.
